Axbryd contributes in building the computing infrastructure that will support the future advancements of humankind.
We strongly believe that technology that is easy to use will make the people’s lives easier and better.
We believe in technology that makes the world better by being simpler, less complicated, lighter
Our road takes many steps to be walked, and our first step is in computer networks: the backbone of modern society and the foundation of our future.
Axbryd’s first contribution to a lighter world is to build hardware and software for new, better networks.
In a software world, network subsystems have been maintaining their old hardware look.
A decade ago, a group of smart people understood we had a network ossification problem, and invented software-defined networking to address it. What they did was amazing and it gave birth to years of innovation, providing strong intellectual and technological advancements. Nonetheless, today, it is time for the next step!
Our infrastructure now runs dynamic containers and microservices, data-driven workloads and heterogeneous applications.
The current hardware-shaped APIs do not fit the software-centric development teams and their needs.
At Axbryd we believe it is time to move software-defined networking from hardware-shaped APIs to a truly software-only environment.
The good news is that we already have a great software technology to program the network. Linux shows us the way, with eBPF, and we believe the Linux’s way should be followed down to the NIC.
Network developers do not need to learn new programming paradigms and languages. eBPF programs should not be changed. It does not matter which NIC you have, and what capabilities it has. network programming should always look the same.
When working on complex technology, under uncertainty and with constantly changing conditions, it is easy to lose your track. At Axbryd we decided to define a metaphorical compass to guide our next steps, establishing three principles:
No single actor should retain the full control on the computing infrastructure
The knowledge required to build the key components of the infrastructure should be available to everyone
The infrastructure should be explicable to humans that depend on its operations
We all have our own set of values, and this is true also for the Axbryd’s team. Nonetheless, we strive to build a culture that sits on top of these four common values:
Integrity: we are true to our principles, consistent, reliable and honest no matter what
Empathy: we always do our best to understand and share the perspective of others
Optimism: we know things fail, but we believe we can fix them
Humor: we love to laugh together and to make our journey and common paths enjoyable
